Sustainability and Competitiveness

Paper is an environmentally friendly high-tech product. It is made from renewable raw materials, and the used product serves again as a raw-material source. Austria offers ideal conditions for the manufacture of paper. Its advantages as a location include its forests, water, energy and solid know-how in paper production. But this discussion must not be limited to questions of technology but should also include societal issues, a sense of responsibility, and the rights of citizens to make free decisions. An important project in the further development of sustainability was the drawing up of a set of goals, which defines more than 30 objectives to which the industry is committed.

Award-winning Sustainability Report

In 2004 Austria’s paper manufacturers became the first industry in the country to publish a sustainability report with the specialist guidance of the Austrian Institute for Sustainable Development (ÖIN). Like the current Annual Report it goes far beyond the demands of annual and environmental reporting. In November 2005 this document was honoured by the Austrian Chamber of Auditors and Accountants with the Austrian Environmental Reporting Award (AERA).
